A Conference on David Hall. The Philosophy Department of Trinity University in San Antonio is pleased to sponsor and host a small conference commemorating the life and work of fellow Texas philosopher the late David Lynn Hall of the University of Texas at El Paso. The conference begins Friday evening 23 May 2003, with Professor Richard Rorty (Stanford University) as the invited speaker for the first plenary session, and run through noon of Sunday the 25th. Along with concurrent sessions, there will be four plenary sessions with invited speakers assessing the varied dimensions of David Halls philosophical work. The other invited speakers are Professors Robert Neville (Boston University), Joseph Grange (University of Southern Maine), and Roger Ames (University of Hawaii).

Dewey, Hayek and Embodied Cognition: Experience, Beliefs and Rules. Third Annual Symposium on the Foundations of the Behavioral Sciences, Behavioral Research Council. AIER Campus, Great Barrington, Mass., 18-20 July 2003. The Behavioral Research Council of the American Institute for Economic Research is sponsoring a conference whose aim is to discuss the role of experience, beliefs and rules in human behavior in light of recent findings in the cognitive neurosciences. The proceedings of the conference will be published in a book. Two texts will act as starting points, namely, John Dewey and Arthur Bentley's Knowing and the Known (1949) and Friedrich Hayek's The Sensory Order (1952). The 2003 conference will include economic theorists, cognitive psychologists, philosophers of mind, legal theorists, and neuroscientists.
